Practical Cats, Dramatical Cats

ओउर दिरेक्टोर टोल्ड उस तो
...Hmmm, well I'm not at all sure what happened there. Apparently I was typing in Hindi. What I was trying to say is our director told us the other night at rehearsal that she wants us to start practicing our makeup. Since my character is usually played by the same actor that plays Mistoffelees, I got to make up my own design. It's not quite what I want it to be, but I'd say I'm off to a good start.
Here's a bit of Cat trivia for you: whenever you see Mistoffelees not in his light-up jacket (so in other words, the whole play except for his song), he is actually another cat named Quaxo. This musical is filled to the brim with all sorts of confusing things like this (In case a bunch of acotrs crawling around on the stage floor like cats and then shooting up some old lady into the sky on a tire wasn't confusing enough.), it's quite... uh, confusing.
Apparently there's a whole cult following as well- No, not cult following, that's too cool a term for these geeks... A nerd culture!! Yes, that's better. These people write fanfiction and make up soap opera worthy backstories for the cats in the show. I could understand if you were actually in the show and made up a backstory in an attempt to give your character more depth (we've done that in ours), but no, it's just sad people that waste there time thinking up this shit. I just want to shake thes sillies while screaming into their ears "IT'S A SHOW ABOUT A BUNCH OF CATS!!!"

one heluva update

Good lord, I'm certainly not the best blogger the world has ever seen. Ah well. I guess then that this post will be just one big update.

Cuckoo's Nest, as I said before, went well. We averaged about a half full house I think (don't quote me on that). I had mixed feelings about it closing. It was such a fun character to play, but I was exhausted and stressed out of my mind by the end of it due to being the costumer's assistant. It was one of the few productions I've been a part of where I was treated like an actress and not some sweet, clueless child and so I think (as cheesy as it sounds) it won't be one I'm soon to forget.

Here are a couple slideshows our Scanlon made of the photos taken during the last dress rehearsal.

Sadly, it wasn't my night to rehearse, but if you just look at all the photos of this lovely lady and pretend they're me, you'll get a pretty good idea of what I did.

Odd Couple opened two weekends ago, so it's just this coming weekend left. I'll be quite sad to see this one go. It's been such a fun ride. Everyone in the cast and crew get along so well, I feel like all we ever do is laugh. Since there's not much else to do for the all but ten minutes I'm not on stage, my fellow pigeon and I goof off and attempt to make the guys laugh (while they're on stage, of course). I won't go into our antics here, as I'm not sure which of my young cousins will read this. I'll just say that we're quite hilarious and leave it at that. ;)

Christmas Carol opens the weekend after Odd Couple closes. It's been a bit of a rough ride with this one, but I think it's pulling itself together. By opening night I'll think we'll have a smoothly running machine and enough Christmas spirit to kill Santa Claus. The nerd in me is quite excited about the costumes for this one, even if they span a good three hundred years of fashion history. Ah well, that's the joy of community theatre.

I bombed my Bye Bye Birdie auditons. No, I'm not being modest, seriously, it was one of the worst auditions I've ever given. Not surprisingly, I didn't get cast. The cast is full of some of my favorite people though, and I'm looking forward to being an audience member. I decided not to audition for Lion in Winter as... (drum roll please) I got into Cats!! It's one of my favorite directors and several favorite people are in the cast as well others who I've heard so much about and can't wait to act alongside. I'm only ensemble for this one, as this is not exactly the sort of show I'm cut out for, but I'm just happy to be a part of it (there I go being all cheesy again). And oh by the way, Josiah got the part of Mr. Mistoffelees! In case you're not familiar with the show, here's the song.

Yeah, super excited for him! He'll be the cutest little kitten ever. Besides how kick-ass will it look to have on his resume that he played Mistoffelees at the age of fifteen?!

We love you Conrad, oh yes we do!

I just wanted to drop a quick note about tomorrow... Bye Bye Birdie auditions! Sooooo excited and quite a bit nervous as well (yes, already). I'm actually better prepared than I've ever been (for a singing audition, that is). I should be okay, except there's that one note... Anyways, keep me in your thoughts/prayers/whatever it is you do and I'll let you know how it goes.

Oh and Cuckoo's Nest went well. The plan is to write a post expanding on this sometime in the near future. I just needed some recovery time. It's been an exhausting last few weeks.

Reviewed!

Cuckoo's Nest was reviewed opening night. The night I performed!! It's exciting, even if I'm not mentioned.

P.S. I decided last minute to audition for A Christmas Carol and got Fred's wife. Looks to be a particularly Christmas-spirity Christmas.

Another Opening, Another Show

Tech week is over, opening night is tonight, and I'm absolutely pooped. Exciting news though! Due to the preview performance being cancelled, I ended up getting to be the Candy for opening night. I'm super excited, but, at the same time, super scared. Usually I feel a bit more prepared, but sharing the role meant not as many rehearsals. I'm just trying not to think about it. Wish me luck! (Or a broken leg, whichever you prefer.)

All Grown Up - Bare

Currently I'm obsessed with this song and playing this character. Fantastic, isn't it?

There's a definite possibility of me losing my mind this week

The insanity has begun. Cuckoo's Nest is opening this coming weekend, meaning this weekend is (cue drum roll) TECH WEEK. There's nothing so draining/stressful/fun/desparaging/satisfying as a tech week. In five minutes you can go from hating people to loving them and back again. It's physically, spiritually, emotionally, and mentally exhausting. Ah, I love the theatre.
Introduction over, here are some photos for your perusal.

Our lovely set. Disgusting, no? I can't say how absolutely excited I am about it.

Oh and to all of you who have expressed an interest in seeing The Odd Couple, you'd better make a decision now. They've already pre-sold around four hundred tickets, meaning, quite probably, a sold-out run. To order tickets call The Center for Performing Arts' box office between the hours of 1 and 5, Tuesday through Saturday and Sunday 9:30am -1:30pm. You can find the number here. They do sell tickets online, but I wouldn't recommend it as it costs three dollars more and only a certain number of seats are available online. Let me know if you have any questions.

As requested...

Currently I am in rehearsal for two shows, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and The Odd Couple. In Cuckoo's Nest I play Candy Starr, a young lady with a less than respectable night job. It will be in production October 1st-17th. However, I am doubling with another actress in this role, so I'll only be performing October 9th, 13th, and 14th. At this time, I am not allowed to reveal the identity of my character in Odd Couple so there's not much to say about that. It will be in production November 5th-21st. Both shows will take place at The Center for Performing Arts at Rhinebeck.
I also have a couple of auditions fast-approaching, Bye Bye Birdie on October 25th or 26th and The Lion in Winter on November 14th or 15th.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

Okay, I'm a dork. I started looking through my pictures from Wizard of Oz, thinking I would post some of them in a couple days or so, and I can't help it, I just have to post some now.
For those of you who didn't know, I was in Up In One's production of The Wizard of Oz at The Center for Performing Arts at Rhinebeck this past June and July. I was in the ensemble. More particularly, I played the Barrister of Munchkinland, a tree, a beautician, an "optimistic voice", and a jitterbug. As cliche as it sounds, it was a great learning experience. This show had the most dancing in it that I had had to do up to that time (not one of my strongest points) and I also had to deal with a ridiculous amount of children (munchkins) and their parents which meant trying to keep a clean mouth and positive attitude at all times (most certainly not one of my strongest points).
So... enjoy this smattering of pictures from the show and perhaps I'll post some more later.

Ah yes, another blog

I start many blogs. Many blogs that, after the first post (and sometimes not even that) just sit there unread and uncontinued (apparently this is not a word, but we're going to pretend it is). This blog will be different. I am D.E.T.E.R.M.I.N.E.D. that it shall be so! I actually really do think this one will succeed. Not only does this blog have a purpose (whoa imagine that!), but it's about my favorite topic: theatre. (Two, if you include me as a topic. Hah.)

The purpose of this blog is to keep all of you lovely people up to date with my crazy goings on. It's not that I wouldn't rather personally share with you, it's just that I never can remember who I've told what to and I really hate repeating stories/news. So here we are, nothing clever or world-shattering, just an ordinary blog from an ordinary girl telling of her ordinary life in the very unordinary world of theatre.

Love you all immensely!
